Scientific or Medical Journals are publications whose goal it is to expand and facilitate inquiry into scientific and medical fields through publishing research, findings, or studies conducted by academic experts and \/ or students in their specific fields.<\/p>\n

A scientific or medical research article is an article written by a scientist or someone in the medical field with the purpose of addressing a specific problem in science or medicine and these articles are put in medical journals. <\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The articles by way of their findings and conclusions try to solve that problem or at least offer plausible answers to the problem. <\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

These articles are not light leisurely reads; they are filled with medical and scientific jargon, unless they have written the article in lay language meant for non-scientific\/medical people. <\/p>\n

Journals serve as a way for researchers and scientists to publish their findings in a systematic and organized way so that it can be used for future research by other scientists who would then pick up the research from where the previous researcher left off.<\/p>\n

Scientific and Medical journals publish these articles so that a record of that particular research can be kept for future reference or citation.<\/p>\n

The goal of both the researcher and the journal is to improve the scientific community\u2019s understanding of the subject.<\/p>\n

There are generally five categories of Scientific \/ Medical Journals. <\/p>\n

  1. Specific Scientific Journals for example an astrophysics journal<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

    <\/p>\n

  2. General Scientific Journals for example Nature<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

    <\/p>\n

  3. Open Access Journals (free to all to access)<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

    <\/p>\n

  4. Subscription based journals with peer review process prior to publishing (legitimate\/ credible)<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

    <\/p>\n

  5. Subscription Based Journals (predatory journals)<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

    <\/p>\n

  6. Pre- Print Journals (require researchers to publish their research for review before they can submit to official journals. <\/li>\n

    What are predatory journals? <\/strong><\/h2>\n

    <\/p>\n

    <\/p>\n

    Predatory journals\u2014also called fraudulent, deceptive, or pseudo-journals\u2014are publications that claim to be legitimate scholarly journals, but misrepresent their publishing practices.<\/p>\n

    <\/p>\n

    <\/p>\n

    Predatory Journals take advantage of authors by asking them to publish for a fee without providing peer-review or editing services. Because predatory publishers do not follow the proper academic standards for publishing, they usually offer a quick turnaround on publishing a manuscript.  <\/p>\n

    In contrast, high quality academic journals take longer to publish articles because they go through a proper peer review and copy editing process.<\/p>\n

    What are Open Access journals? <\/strong><\/h2>\n

    <\/p>\n

    <\/p>\n

    Open Access journals may require authors to publish for a fee, but they maintain high standards for peer review and editing. The goal of Open Access publishing is to circulate research to a larger audience by removing paywalls.<\/p>\n

    One method is to look for the journal and its publisher in the
    Directory of Open Access Journals<\/strong> (DOAJ) -<\/strong> https:\/\/www.doaj.org<\/a>, and the
    Committee on Publication Ethics<\/strong> (COPE) - <\/strong>    https:\/\/publicationethics.org<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

    If the journal and publisher appear in both, then it is likely that the journal is credible <\/p>\n
